About

I’m a proud Air Force brat. Growing up in the military was a great experience. Mostly we were stationed in the south except for a few years in England.

Family

I love being a husband and father. Christina, my wife, and I met in college and she automatically fell in love with me, at least that’s how I remember it.  Actually, she snubbed me the first few times I tried to talk to her.  I can’t blame her though; my attempt to get her attention wasn’t all that smooth.  I did my best Fonzy impression and she did her best Road Runner escape.  In fact, the first time I asked for her name I believe her words were, “That’s for me to know and you not to find out.” Yeah, it was love at first sight…for one of us.   Eventually, I wore her down and we’ve been happily married ever since.  Guys, sometimes the coyote wins.

I love her because of the person she is and the women she wants to be, not to mention she has given me one of the great blessings of my life, our first child.  Christina and I are passionate about parenting.  We both share the belief that we are raising future world changers.  Tripp (his nickname) has brought a new dimension and joy to our lives.  From the day he was born he has been wide-eyed with curiosity and has been trying to stand on his own two feet.  From all indications we can look forward to great adventures together as a family.

Favorite Food

I just love food in general, especially when shared with family and friends.   My grandmother is probably the best cook I’ve known.  Sunday meals at her place were always a treat growing up.  On the other hand, my mom can make a mean hamburger.  I’ll take her burger over a fast food joint’s any day.  Now, if you press me on a favorite style, I’ll fall back to Southern home cooking, but Italian is a close second!  If I could pick my heritage I’d be 50% Southern and 50% Italian-now that sounds like a delicious combination!

Favorite Pastime

I enjoy getting to know people and there’s no better place to get to know someone than on a front porch.  I’ve made an art out of front porch sitting.  I’m always game for a comfortable porch swing, a tall glass of fresh brewed sweet tea and good converstation.  I’m a firm beliver that sweet tea ( 2 cups of sugar per gallon) should only be drunk from a mason jar with lots of ice.  If you have a front porch, a porch swing and sweet tea to share, just give me a call and I’ll be over soon.  Look for my upcoming book The Art of Front Porch Sitting published by I’m Just Kidding You Press due to hit book stores the second Tuesday of next week.

Interesting Factoid

I accidentally swallowed my toothbrush.  Okay, now that you’ve stopped laughing.  I’m serious.  No really, it happened.

Favorite Quote

Sometimes the grass is greener on the other side because it’s over a septic tank.

People I’d like to Meet

I look forward to meeting those that the Bible speak of as “the last.” Most people I know only want to be “the first.”

Education
I’m a graduate of the Baptist College and a graduate student in Apologetics at Biola University.

Ministry Experience
I’ve been serving in ministry actively for 10 years.  My first staff ministry position was as a Hospice Chaplain.  It was a privilege to minister to people who were in the last days of their lives.  God used that time to teach me about what is really important in life and death.  Since I left Hospice, I’ve served in churches within the Florida panhandle.  I’ve been on staff at First Baptist Church of Navarre since November 2005 serving as Minister of Education and Youth. My passion is to teach and preach about Jesus to all people.  No one has a corner on Jesus, He’s available to everyone.  Join me on the front porch and I’ll tell you how he’s transformed my life.

Ricky, I found your website and I really it. The pictures of Trip are teriffic. What a great job you did it putting on the “Superbowl” outreach yesterday. I think everyone enjoyed it very much. Wish there could have been a little more non-members show up, but all in all good fellowship. Looks like you and I were the only Steeler fans though. It was a good game no matter who one. Again, thanks again, and I’ll see you sometime this week I’m sure. Your brother in Christ, Don Holtz
